Roadside Development Permit

Development near a provincial highway may require roadside development approval through Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors. Please view map below for when a permit is required:

Major two-lane, multi-lane, and freeways (Highways 16, 36, 631 between Hwy 857 & 36, 857)

  • Development within 300 meters of highway right-of-way boundary
  • Development within 800 meters of an intersection with the highway

Minor 2-lane highways (Highways 619, 626, 631 between Hwy 16 & 857 and gravel portion east of Hwy 36, 870, 881):

  • Development within 400 meters of an intersection with the highway

"Development" refers to the construction, excavation, placement, alteration, renovation of any building, structure or installation that occurs above or below ground (including signage).
