Planning and Development

A development permit and a building permit are required for most new developments and changes to land use. A development permit ensures that the changes to your property meets the requirements of the County's Land Use Bylaw and the building permit ensures that the development meets the requirements of the National Building Code - Alberta Edition.

Common instances that require a development permit include, but are not limited to: 

• New or replacements to buildings
• Changing current use of land or a building; or
• Placement of already constructed or partially constructed buildings.

Common instances that require a building permit include, but are not limited to:  

• New construction and additions.
• Minor improvements (decks, sheds, hot tubs, swimming pools, wood-burning appliances, etc.).
• Demolishing and moving buildings; or 
• Renovations.

Development (including posting of signs) near a provincial highway may require approval through Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors.
