Grizzly Bear Creek Wind Power
Enel Green Power's Grizzly Bear Wind Power project was approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) to construct 34 wind turbines south of the Village of Mannville within the County of Minburn and County of Vermilion River. This 152 MW project was completed in early 2023 and generates 528 GWh of energy annually (equivalent to 73,000+ households) into the Alberta grid, avoiding 343,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

December 17, 2022 Update
On May 5, 2022 AUC approval #26677-D02-2022 was granted to construct and operate the project. Since this time, Enel has been working toward completion of the construction phase of the project by January 31, 2023. However, due to supply chain issues and unfavorable weather conditions, Enel may need to extend the construction period as late as April 30, 2023. In the interim, Enel intends to continue work on the project and is targeting completion of wind turbine installation activities by January 31, 2023.
After January 31, 2023, it is possible that some wind turbine erection may be ongoing and consistent with work that has been occurring in the project area since August 2022. After erection of the wind turbines is complete, commissioning activities will be focused on work inside the wind turbines. This internal commissioning will not involve heavy equipment use (eg. concrete trucks, cranes) and will result in minimal disruption. Upon completion of installation and commissioning activities, Enel will resume reclamation activities as weather permits in 2023.

December 3, 2022 Update
Work on the electrical system has progressed to the point where the energization of the Grizzly Bear Creek Substation Wind Farm is scheduled for December 5, 2022. As of December 5, 2022, the following parts of the wind farm electrical system shall be considered energized and potentially hazardous:
- ATCO Transmission Line Substation to Grizzly Bear Creek Substation along Rge Rd 83
- Grizzly Bear Creek Substation
On December 12, 2022 Enel intends to energize all Grizzly Bear electrical infrastructure, including the wind turbines and underground cables.
For the next few months Enel and its contractors will be performing testing on these systems to confirm proper operation. During this time, you will see the turbines in and out of operation - this is normal during the test period. Please reach out directly to Enel if you have any questions.
